ABOUT THE DOCTOR
Dr. Pokroy received his medical degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed his ophthalmology residency and board certification at Kaplan Medical Center in Israel in 2000, followed by a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Henry Ford Hospital, Michigan, USA.
He served for many years as a senior vitreoretinal consultant and surgeon at Assaf Harofe (Shamir) and Barzilai Medical Centers, and at Barzilai he held the role of Deputy Head of Department. In parallel, Dr. Pokroy was the Chief Ophthalmologist of the Israel Air Force for 12 years, where he developed expertise in aviation medicine, squint assessment, and glasses and contact lens prescriptions.
Dr. Pokroy has authored numerous scientific publications in international ophthalmology journals and textbooks, covering retinal disease and surgery, cataract and refractive surgery, and aviation medicine.
He is committed to delivering uncompromising professionalism while avoiding over-treatment. He believes in ensuring that patients fully understand their condition and the available treatment options, allowing for thoughtful, informed care.
Dr. Pokroy provides comprehensive ophthalmologic care, with particular expertise in retinal diseases including age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, and macular hole. He performs retinal surgery, cataract surgery, intravitreal injections, OCT interpretation, and pediatric ophthalmic assessments.
